The sides who finish 1-8 in the league phase will automatically qualify for the last 16, while the sides who finish 9-24 will enter a knockout stage playoff round to decide the final eight sides. From here, it will be like the Champions League we have all become used to.

New year, new format!
This, of course, is the first year of the “Swiss model” format, which sees four extra teams in the tournament. All 36 sides will be in one big league, with each playing eight games (four home, four away) before the knockout stages begin.
Teams will be seeded into four pots. Each team will play two sides from each pot (one home, one away).
In the league phase, teams from the same country will not play one another, while teams will only be allowed play a maximum of two teams from one country.
