Scorers: Swedberg 51′; Mbappé 20′, Vinicius Jr 66′
Real Madrid kept pace with Barcelona as they edged past Celta Vigo 2-1 thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr.
Los Blancos began the game on the front foot and deservedly went ahead when Mbappé lashed the ball past Vicente Guaita from outside the penalty area.
But Celta Vigo were not going down without a fight, and created several good opportunities before the break without finding the net. That changed six minutes into the second half though, as Swedberg found the corner of the Real Madrid goal to level the game, and left Celta firmly in the ascendency.
However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side rallied and, helped by the introduction of Luka Modric, who became their oldest ever player, they retook the lead as the Croatian veteran set up Vinicius Jr with a pass that cut through the Celta defence, and allowed the Brazilian to tap home.
Still the hosts created the better opportunities as they searched for another equaliser, missing three excellent opportunities and testing Courtois time and time again. Despite this barrage, they could not find a response and Real Madrid held on to a precious three points to put the pressure back on Barcelona as they face Celta Vigo on Sunday.
