Dressed in red, white and blue, you’d expect Captain America to step up at the U.S. Open. In the early hours of Thursday’s first round, Patrick Reed did exactly that.
On the par-3, 165-yard 7th hole, Reed was sitting at one over after a double-bogey two holes before. But he stepped up and erased that in a hurry:
Not bad. Shame that there wasn’t more of a crowd to enjoy it. Reed would go on to pull within a stroke of the lead later in his round.
Reed’s best performance at a U.S. Open is a solo fourth place finish in 2018 at Shinnecock Hills. An ace will help improve on that.
UPDATE: Reed wasn’t alone. Will Zalatoris followed up on the same hole a few hours later with an ace of his own, marking only the 47th time a hole-in-one had been recorded at the U.S. Open:
