Vadodara: A resident of Soma Talav Road filed a complaint of cheating against an agent who promised to enable him to emigrate to Canada.
Jignesh Bhatia, who works for a private company in the city, stated in his FIR against Khantil Shah that in June 2021 he received a call from a woman who told him about a company that helps people get permanent residency (PR) and jobs abroad.
Bhatia went to the company’s office and was briefed on how the firm worked to get PRs and jobs abroad. He was looking to get a job in Canada and inquired about the cost. Bhatia was told it would cost him Rs 13 lakh, but negotiated it down to Rs 11.80 lakh.
Bhatia said Khantil Shah’s company entered an agreement with him, after which he was convinced that their operations were genuine. The accused began taking money from Shah on various pretexts for about two months. Bhatia ended up paying over Rs 1.21 lakh, but got no word on his visa process. When nothing materialized after eight months, he got suspicious.
Shah later switched off his phone and even closed his office. Bhatia realized he had been cheated and approached Gorwa police.
