TRAVELSAVERS Canada advisors say Canadian travellers are planning to check items off their bucket lists in 2025, journeying to new locales and engaging in customized experiences.
While Europe’s timeless appeal remains strong, travellers will gravitate to less-visited locales there as well as other corners of the world. Italy is predicted to be 2025’s top destination, as it was in last year’s survey, with Portugal ranked second.
But the rise of Morocco – second in the up-and-coming category – shows the growing appetite for the road less travelled.
Advisors foresee exotic locales as another top trend in 2025. Japan topped the up-and-coming list, rising from number four in last year’s survey. South Africa, Eastern Europe, and Vietnam also placed in the top five.
“Today’s travellers are seeking more than just destinations—they’re seeking meaningful experiences,” said Jane Clementino, SVP and General Manager of TRAVELSAVERS Canada.
“The value of travel lies in the memories and connections it creates, and expert advisors are key to crafting those one-of-a-kind journeys that resonate on a deeply personal level.”
All-Inclusives Still Hold Strong Appeal
All-inclusive travel emerged as the top trend, given its appeal to relaxation-minded travellers who prize its convenience and value. Family travel, active and adventure travel, luxury travel, and river cruising completed the top five.
Bucket-list travel was named the top emerging trend. It was followed by personalized experiences, authentic travel, home-style accommodations, and off-the-beaten-path/exotic travel.
“In 2025, the purpose of travel will evolve as travellers will place greater significance on their destinations,” said Clementino. “Their choices will become a reflection of their aspirations — whether pursuing adventure, fostering cultural connections, or embracing self-care and rejuvenation.”
Evolving Niches for 2025
Family Festivities – The multi-generational trend continues. Families are seeking fun in the sun at all-inclusive resorts in booming destinations such as the Riviera Maya, the Dominican Republic and Cancun. They’re also booking home-style accommodations to unite everyone under one roof.
The New Wave of Cruising – As young travellers chart a new course, Millennials and Gen Z are taking to the high seas and rivers. More than a dozen new ships are arriving next year to keep pace with the heightened demand. Non-traditional cruise destinations like Colombia and Egypt are trending, as well as Alaska and Antarctica.
Tailored Trips – More travellers are avoiding cookie-cutter experiences. They want bespoke adventures aligned with their desires. They also crave authentic connections with people, culture and nature.
Emerging Europe – While Italy is still dominant, over-tourism and the desire to explore new places are sparking interest in other European destinations. This includes places such as Portugal, Iceland and rising stars of Eastern Europe such as Prague, Krakow and the Baltic countries.
