An Ottawa man is facing a slew of charges including multiple counts of attempted murder after a violent incident in Orléans earlier this month.
The full list of charges against 33-year-old Tyler Low includes:
Four counts of attempted murder.
Five counts of aggravated assault.
Twelve counts of assault with a weapon.
One count of assaulting a peace officer.
Two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.
Seven counts of mischief causing property damage.
Twenty counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
One count of obstructing police.
The charges are in relation to a Nov. 16 incident on the 1100 block of Place D’Orleans Drive in Ottawa.
At about 11:15 p.m., police received calls about an individual with a weapon who was assaulting people and damaging vehicles in the area of St. Joseph Boulevard and Place d’Orleans Drive, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said in a news release.
After a violent confrontation with police, Low was transported to hospital with serious injuries and is currently in stable condition.
OPS said a total of five civilians were injured in the incident. Some of those injuries were serious but later deemed non-life-threatening, police added.
Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the incident because an officer who responded to the scene shot a 33-year-old man multiple times before arresting him and taking him to hospital in “critical-stable condition.”
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said police also used two stun guns on the man.
The independent civilian agency did not say if the man was carrying a weapon at the time he was shot, nor did they name him.
The SIU investigates incidents involving police where there’s been a death, serious injury or sexual assault, or if shots have been fired.
