Wizard is a gold medal hopeful for Canada

When Philip Kim, known as Phil Wizard, started breaking, he had no idea it would lead him to the Olympics one day.

Coming off a gold medal performance at the 2023 Pan American Games, he’s not only going to the Olympics, he’s one of the favourites to win gold. 

The 27-year-old from Vancouver, British Columbia, started breaking with a group of friends who called themselves The Wizards Crew.

He said people often referred to him as, Phil from the Wizards Crew.

And that name “naturally got shortened to Phil Wizard.”

CBC Kids News contributor Arjun Ram and MAJ (Mon Actualité Jeunesse, the French equivalent of CBC KN) contributor Gabrielle Dallaire sat down with Kim for an interview in December 2023.

But before they got to the questions, such as who Kim’s favourite fictional wizard is, they played a game of 20 Questions to try to guess his sport.
