The Chicago Bears roster is most certainly going to look different next year following a 2024 season that has been an extreme disappointment, to put it lightly. One of the biggest areas of concern has been the Bears’ offensive line, with issues at nearly position. But, one player, Teven Jenkins has actually performed quite well among all offensive guards in the NFL.
This season, the Bears offensive line has allowed 60 sacks in 15 games, making rookie quarterback Caleb Williams the most sacked quarterback in franchise history with two games to go. Having to put a real emphasis on improving the quality of the offensive line, Bears insider Brad Biggs does not believe that Jenkins will be part of the team in the 2025 season.
Jenkins, who was injured in the Week 16 loss to the Detroit Lions, has played 495 snaps this season and currently ranks sixth in pass protection for all offensive guards in the league. Appearing on 670 the Score, Biggs said he doesn’t believe the Bears will be inclined to re-sign Jenkins, who is on the last year of his contract.
“They really need to firm up that interior [offensive line] I don’t believe they will be inclined to attempt to re-sign Teven Jenkins, who left yesterday’s game with a calf injury,” Biggs said. “He’s been on the injury report with five different body parts this season. I think he needs a fresh start elsewhere, I think the best case scenario for Teven might be a one-year prove it deal, go out there and show you can get on the field and stay on the field. I just don’t know that’s the case, I’ve never seen an offensive lineman leave games with so much regularity.”
With Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright at each of the tackle positions, Biggs says the Bears need to focus on improving both guard positions and the center this offseason.
“They need to firm up the pocket, they need two new starting guards, they need to address the center position,” he said. “Could they potentially involve some guys on the roster as competition or roster, yeah. You’re not going to be able to go out and get 7 or 8 offensive linemen.”
Pointing out their draft pick capital and $80 million in cap space they’ll have available, Biggs believes there’s no reason for the Bears to not emphasize upgrading their offensive line.
