Gippy Grewal On How Life In Canada Got Impacted Due To Indo-Canadian Political Issues: Sabse Jyada Suffer Humare… | EXCLUSIVE
Gippy Grewal is currently gearing up for his much-awaited film Shinda Shinda No Papa alongside his real-life son and actress Hina Khan. Recently, in an exclusive chat with Rudrani Chattoraj, the Punjabi singer-actor talked about how his life in Canada was impacted due to Indo-Canadian political issues. In 2023, the Indian government announced a temporary suspension of visa issuance to Canadian citizens.
Addressing the issue, Gippy full of hope told Zoom, “Actually, kya hai, jaise Canada main humare lakho Punjabi baithe hai, bhai behen hai. Yaha main hum, humara desh hai, hum baithe hai. So mujhe aisa lagta hai, koi bhi Political tanav, koi bhi cheez aisi hoti hai, sabse jyada suffer kon karte hai, waha ke log karte hai, jo community mai apas mai jude hue hai. Obviously, waha ke logo ko yaha ke logo ke saath attachment and vice versa. So, finally cheezein abhi sort down hui hai. Cheezein waapas khuli hai. We are so happy ki yaar ye cheezein theek hui. Kyuki logo ka thodi koi aapas mai cheezein woh hota hai, woh attachment apni rahegi hi
(Loose translation: Indians staying in Canada were worried during the political tension between the two countries. We are happy right now that things have been resolved. We don’t have any issues with anyone and we will always have attachments toward our country.)
For the unversed, this decision came amidst concerns over security threats against Indian diplomatic missions in Canada. All visa categories, including e-visas and applications from Canadian nationals in other countries, are affected by the halt. It all started when, on September 18, 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in Parliament that there were serious claims that Indian agents were involved in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader from Canada. This has caused tension between India and Canada, with India dismissing the accusation as unreasonable.
Meanwhile, On the professional front, the actor’s upcoming movie Shinda Shinda No Papa, is scheduled to release on May 10th. The story is about a dad who lives in Canada and is unhappy with his troublesome son.
