According to Health Canada’s press release, the manufacturer is ‘recalling specific lots due to the possibility of contamination during manufacturing’.
“Although all products passed their release specification testing, recent routine media fill testing showed contamination with ralstonia picketti, leading to the inability to confirm safety of specific product lots,” it added.
Ralstonia pickettii is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, soil bacterium. It is generally found in moist environments – rivers, lakes etc. It is also found in biofilms in plastic water pipes.
“Ralstonia pickettii is the most clinically important pathogen from the Ralstonia genus. Nosocomial outbreaks of Ralstonia pickettii infections brought about by the use of contaminated medical solutions, including saline, sterile water, as well as disinfectants, have been reported. There have been case reports of invasive infections with variable presentations,” an article publshed on NCBI states.
We have reached out to Bayer Inc, the manufacturer, to get more details about the recall.
Last month, Bayer had announced a recall for its hydraSense Baby Nasal Care Easydose due to a potential contamination.
“While no adverse events have been reported at this time, consumers who believe that their hydraSense Baby Nasal Care Easydose product is from one of the affected lots are to stop using it immediately,” Bayer had said.
