Tennis fans are only a few days away from one of the best tennis events on the calendar. The world’s best players are in London, where they will feature in the oldest tournament.
Carlos Alcaraz is the event’s current champion as he defeated Novak Djokovic last July in an epic five-setter that saw both men fight for almost five hours.
Jannik Sinner will undoubtedly be one of the players to watch, as the Italian transitioned from rising star to superstar at the end of 2023, and is now a serious contender in all the tournaments he plays.
Djokovic will hope to be as best as he can in terms of fitness, as the Serb is recovering after surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The 24-time major champion stated he would only compete at Wimbledon if he saw the chance of winning the trophy.
As for the women’s category, the trio Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka are the biggest favorites to go all the way in London. Swiatek recently won the French Open for the fourth time in her career, but she has never won Wimbledon, being the quarterfinals in 2023 her best performance on the London grass.
However, Marketa Vondrousova will have other plans and will try to defend her crown in the season’s third major. Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, and Jasmine Paolini are other names that could make a big impact in the tournament.
Wimbledon, considered tennis’ most prestigious tournament, runs from Monday, July 1, to Sunday, July 14.
Wimbledon’s 137th edition will be held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, in Wimbledon, London.
