The 21st annual KidSport and Friends Golf Tournament raised $40,000 for the program in Penticton.
The tournament, sponsored by Greyback Construction, was held at the Penticton Golf and Country Club and saw 165 golfers participate.
The $40,000 that was raised from golfers and local businesses goes to support KidSport Penticton.
“With the funds raised from this tournament, we can continue to help those kids who would otherwise not be able to participate in sport,” said Dave Lieskovsky, the chair of KidSport Penticton.”Here in Penticton, like other communities, we are struggling to keep kids involved in organized sport as sport offers healthy alternatives to screen time, street time and the anti-social behaviour that causes so many problems later in life.”
The program provides funding for families to give their kids a chance to participate in sports they would otherwise be unable to afford.
The annual golf event has become the primary funding source for KidSport Penticton, and both the local program and the tournament have been running since 1999.
The tournament chair, Dick Ante, conceived and presented the idea to Lieskovsky, and since then it has grown to be a popular event that sells out each year.
In addition to the 165 golfers that participated, dozens of local businesses provided prizes and sponsorship funds to make it a financial win for the charity.
