Mumbai witnessed a significant boost in infrastructure development as Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth over Rs 29,400 crore. One of the key projects launched was the twin tunnel work for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, valued at over Rs 6,300 crore.
The GMLR aims to provide road connectivity from the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. Spanning approximately 6.65 kilometers, this link will offer direct connectivity from the Western suburbs to the new proposed airport
Notably, this was PM Modi’s first visit to Mumbai since taking oath as Prime Minister on June 9. During the event, PM Modi stated, “My goal is to transform Maharashtra into the world’s major financial powerhouse and to establish Mumbai as the global fintech capital.”

The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal, covering an area of over 32,600 sq m, is set to provide additional employment opportunities for local residents and serve as a terminal for handling cement and other commodities.
The PM dedicated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended Platforms No. 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. The new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus can now accommodate longer trains, increasing the station’s capacity to handle more passengers. The platforms have been extended by 382 meters, equipped with a cover shed and washable apron, allowing trains of up to 24 coaches to operate, thereby enhancing passenger capacity.
Furthermore, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative internship program with an outlay of around Rs 5,600 crore.
