Portadown boss Niall Currie was full of praise for his substitutes after two of them combined for a last-minute winner against Dungannon Swifts at Shamrock Park.
Ryan Mayse and Ben Wylie were both introduced in the second half and the former’s deep corner was headed home at the back post by the latter in the 95th minute to send the home fans at Shamrock Park into raptures.
“Scoring a last-minute winner is always brilliant and we were on the end of one of those a few weeks ago against Glentoran so that’s how football goes,” Currie told BBC Sport NI.
“Momentum is so important so that will give us all a lift.”
The Ports went in a goal down at the break after Danny Wallace’s 13th minute opener and Currie believed his side were “lucky” that the deficit wasn’t greater.
“Dungannon were good in the first half, but we were disappointed with how we played,” admitted Currie.
“I thought we were quite wasteful in possession for large parts and were chasing shadows.”
Despite their below par first half, Portadown equalised less than five minutes after the break thanks to Ahu Obhakhan and Currie thought the goal transformed the game.
“The equaliser from Ahu changed the momentum of the game after the break.”
“We initially went for a bit of steel in the middle, but we had good options from the bench and utilised them well.”
