November is a deeply depressing month. Halloween decorations are decaying or discarded, it’s too early to get festive, and the sky tends towards 30 days of unrelenting greyness. So it’s appropriate that the 111th Grey Cup is happening in a similarly colourless month.
Besides the banner football match that will see the Jonas Brothers play BC Place in between halves that see large men hurling themselves at each other, the 111th Grey Cup is promising a week-long festival of activities around Vancouver.
“It’s been a decade since we last hosted Grey Cup in Vancouver,” says Duane Vienneau, president of the BC Lions and festival co-chair, in a statement, “so many people in BC and the Lower Mainland haven’t yet experienced the passion, energy, and charm of a Grey Cup Festival in their city.”
From November 13 to 17, expect to see a bunch of events around the city—including gala dinners, sports award ceremonies, and a business summit. The exciting things, of course, are the entertainment choices. Musicians from across Canada will be setting up in Vancouver, including some beloved local artists, for a series of both free and ticketed concerts.
“We aspired to create a sort of music festival with themes each day,” says Riley Wiwchar, the festival’s executive director, in a press release. “There’s truly something for everybody.”
Here are the musical events happening as part of the Grey Cup Festival. Tickets to everything except a pair of breakfasts will go on sale on September 24.
