Warning: This story discusses suicide
New figures collated by the Queensland Treasury show that Australians are losing a staggering $32 billion a year on gambling – the highest per head of population in the world.
Kate* lost her brother to suicide when he was 24, he left a note on his laptop that said “I am taking my own life because I am pathologically addicted to gambling”. Kate joined RN Breakfast to tell her brother’s story and expose what she says is the predatory behaviour of sports betting companies – she’s calling on the Albanese Government to introduce a full ban on gambling advertising saying “it’s too late for my family, but it’s not too late for others.”
