Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz and NFL writer Frank Schwab discuss the Chiefs win over the Falcons despite Kansas City not being nearly as dominant as in years past. Hear the full conversation on “Inside Coverage” – and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen.
Let’s start with the last game that just finished as we started and that’s the Chiefs just doing Chiefs things.
They get a win 22 to 17 over Atlanta in a game that Atlanta throughout.
I just kept thinking was gonna find a way to pull away and they just didn’t.
This is as I continue to say, part of the identity of who the Chiefs are.
The only way you beat the Chiefs is if you beat them in a close game and you’re never going to blow them out.
So just accept it.
It’s, it’s just part of their DNA.
It’s, it was a difference.
It really was a difference between a team kind of still getting its identity with a new quarterback and a team that has been in these situations time after time after time, it just as a confidence, we’re going to find a way to win.
I don’t think yet.
This is a vintage Chiefs team.
They should have put the way the Falcons many, many times in this game like there was the Falcons got off to a hot start, but after that, the Chiefs kind of dominate for a while, but The Falcons are still hanging around, obviously hated the last play call.
Everybody should, but that’s kind of what happens when your quarterback can’t quarterback sneak.
They’re not asking Kirk cousins to sneak it.
That is not a threat.
So I, I it just kind of wrecks your play call and the, the 3rd and 4th and inches there.
I think it’s a really disappointing loss for the Falcons.
It just, the Chiefs just keep doing it, man.
The Chiefs just find ways to win these games.
It’s, it’s actually impressive because this Chiefs team I don’t think is playing their best ball.
They are dealing with injuries, but yet they still just find ways to win the games like this.
I mean, Travis Kelsey looks like a shell of himself so far.
I think that’s fair.
Even though he had four catches in this game, they have basically one option they can count on.
I keep thinking as many of us do that.
Xavier Worthy is gonna have his big breakout.
But this is all about Rasheed Rice who in this game was unstoppable, 12 catches 100 and 10 yards.
There was nothing else about the Chiefs that looked like it would beat you and they still beat you.
I’ll tell you why they’re three and oh, and that’s because the NFL didn’t act on Rasheed Rice’s suspension.
I mean, let’s go back to May June.
We’re talking what we’re talking about all those months.
Oh, there’s four games, six games.
What could it be for Rasheed Rice and Rasheed Rice is really a, he’s turning into one of the top 5 to 10 receivers in football and B they would have no options if not for him.
He is doing all the heavy lifting in this offense.
They’ve had three really, really close games.
They’ve come out on the right side of all of them.
Rasheed Rice is absolutely right now superstar at the receiver position and she should feel very, very lucky that he’s in the lineup and not sitting out the 1st 46, whatever games of the season.
