(WFLA) – Yellow caution tape surrounded the front of a supermarket in South Carolina last week after an alligator was caught hiding underneath a corral of shopping carts.
Lisa Royal spotted the sneaky gator at the Publix in Summerville on June 26, quickly taking out her phone to capture a video.
“It was so unbelievably out of the ordinary, I had to stop and document the moment,” she told Nexstar’s WFLA.
Video of the gator encounter shows shoppers and workers standing around the caution tape, with carts blocking off the immediate area where the gator was hiding.
“Y’all this is happening right now,” Royal said in the video. “There is an alligator under the shopping carts outside.”
Jared Glover, a media relations manager with Publix, told Nexstar that the alligator was ultimately removed from the storefront area.
“Our amazing team quickly contacted the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources who was able to safely relocate our reptilian friend,” Glover said.
