Amazon is getting ready for the holiday rush by hiring 9,000 new employees across Canada. This comes ahead of Prime Day next week and Black Friday and Boxing Day, to go with Christmas.
These roles include full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions in their fulfillment and delivery stations.
As part of this, Amazon is also opening five new delivery stations in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario, to speed up deliveries. These new locations will be in: Burnaby, BC (Riverbend Business Park); Calgary, AB (Rocky View County); Windsor, ON (Dodge Drive); Ottawa, ON (Ottawa East) and Richmond Hill, ON (Vogell Road).
Two more package depots are also planned for Sarnia and Cornwall by the end of 2025. These will be run by local third-party partners using Amazon’s logistics system.
“Amazon’s last mile network plays a critical role in helping us continue to deliver safely at the fastest speeds ever. The new Amazon delivery stations and exchange points bring us closer to customers while allowing us to invest in local communities and create good jobs,” said Jasmin Begagic, Director, Canada Operations, at Amazon Logistics, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.
As for jobs, these will include roles like picking, packing, sorting, and shipping customer orders. Seasonal positions can turn into long term positions.
Amazon is also boosting pay for its employees this year, putting over $100 million CAD towards compensation increases—54% more than last year. This brings the average hourly wage up to $22.25 from around $20.80 in 2023.
Eligible employees will see planned pay raises every six months for the first two years, plus another raise at their three-year mark. There are also referral bonuses if employees bring in new hires.
For full-time and regular part-time employees, Amazon provides benefits like medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with retirement savings plans, plus a career choice program available at over 20 educational institutions.
Amazon’s logistics network in Canada now includes over 65 locations from Victoria in B.C. to Halifax in Nova Scotia.
