Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori this summer. Despite Italy’s elimination from Euro 2024, the centre-back was one of the stars that shone in the tournament.
He is on the radar of the biggest European clubs, including Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli. Calafiori is also appreciated by Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham. But it appears that Arsenal are the ones looking to move ahead of stiff competition.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are set to ‘schedule an initial meeting’ to gain an understanding of the player’s situation. Bologna, meanwhile, understands it will be difficult to keep hold of the defender and are said to be prepared to part ways with him for a fee in the region of £34-38million (€40-45m).
In case a deal does not work out in favour of the Gunners, it is said the club have other alternatives. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo are mentioned as potential options, with the pair said to be admired by Arsenal chiefs.
Romano adds that earlier this year, Calafiori was giving his preference to Juventus, and it is claimed that his stance has not changed. The Italian is a fan of Juventus’ new boss Thiago Motta, whom he was coached by at Bologna last year.
However, a potential stumbling block could be the relationship between Bologna and Juve following Motta’s move.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano said: “Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation – it’s not a negotiation as of now, but let’s see how they will move. Meanwhile, Chelsea also want to add a talented left-footed centre-back, and Calafiori is one of the best around.
“He’s been scouted by Chelsea this year so that could also be one to watch, while let’s also wait and see if other clubs will join the race.”
