Guwahati: The Centre has allocated a sum of Rs 493 crore for the development of road and bridge infrastructure in
Assam and
Tripura. This investment aims to bolster rural connectivity, enhance transportation facilities and foster regional growth in the northeastern region.In Assam, the Union ministry of rural development has sanctioned the construction of 78 roads, spanning a total distance of 563.67 km and 14 bridges. The project, which falls under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III, has been allocated Rs 378.68 crore. According to officials, this initiative will not only connect remote villages with urban centres but also promote economic development, trade and commerce in the region.A govt release highlighted the transformative impact of this endeavour, adding, “The projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III will have a transformative impact on the region, contributing to the growth and prosperity of the northeastern region and cementing govts commitment to inclusive development.”The release further said the initiative will improve access to essential services such as healthcare, education and markets while generating employment opportunities and stimulating local economies. It added that the initiative aligns with govt’s vision of a prosperous northeast and a developed India (Viksit Bharat).Moreover, Tripura has been allocated Rs 114.32 crore for the construction of 42 roads, covering a distance of 118.756 km. This project, which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to 47 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations.The release said, “The projects under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan will have a transformative impact on the region, contributing to the growth and prosperity of the tribal groups in the northeastern region and cementing the govt’s commitment to inclusive development.”These projects show govt’s commitment to enhancing the socio-economic conditions in Assam and Tripura, with a focus on on enhanced connectivity for remote and tribal communities.
