Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz and Frank Schwab discuss why the Bears need to make a change at offensive coordinator asap before they ruin rookie QB Caleb Williams. Hear the full conversation on “Inside Coverage” – and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen.
Let’s get into it.
Caleb Williams has taken a massive step back.
He looked good for a minute.
He does not look good now and he doesn’t look good for the same reason.
I said on this show, what week four, I said the Bears need to just fire everybody and Bears fans got in my mentions.
They’re like, you don’t know ball and all that stuff.
All right, who doesn’t know ball now because it sure looks to me like Waldron and Ibero, the offensive coordinator and the head coach of the Bears are absolutely failing their quarterback and they’re failing him right.
Every week that they are still in his ear is a week that he’s getting more bad habits and is just going down this path of trying to ruin the quarterback.
I mean, yeah, there was that stretch right before the buy where Caleb was playing well, but now you look back and you’re like, well, it was against like the Panthers and the Jaguars and he just caught a run of bad defenses and he hasn’t carried that over and he just, he looks bad right now and I think he’s going to be bad I think he’s going to be a good player, but as I wrote about winners and losers kind of let it off with, depending on what you think of Drake May so far.
Caleb Williams is maybe the fourth best rookie quarterback this year.
I like Drake so far.
Do you?
Do?
You too?
Yes, I think he’s been really good.
I, if I’m taking, you know, he hasn’t played as much as Caleb, but if I’m just saying, what have we seen on film from this guy versus this guy?
I think Drake has outplayed.
Caleb Williams II, I just, obviously, Jaden’s a million miles ahead of everybody and Bo, I think Bo Nick has been better than Caleb as we just talked about.
I think Drake has played better than Caleb Williams and you just wonder my theme for the winners and losers was basically, I, I don’t know if it’s all kill William’s fault.
He’s not doing anything to help himself.
He’s not playing well.
He’s taking a lot of sex.
He shouldn’t hold the ball too long.
He’s missing throws when they’re there, but he’s not going anywhere.
Obviously, you gotta fix what’s wrong and you gotta do it quick.
And I, I think that offensive coordinator change is al almost imminent.
Like you just can’t keep doing this.
This is just ugly football.
They’re playing.
The Bears have never fired a head coach during the season.
They’re very, very proud of this for some dumb reason.
So I don’t think Eber flu is getting fired like tomorrow, but I think we all see where this is heading like this is just, it’s gonna have to happen because like you said, they’re there.
I don’t want them to ruin Caleb Williams.
I don’t think he’s in danger of that right now, but it’s certainly not getting better for him.
I know they’ve never fired a coach in season.
They’ve also never had a Kayla Williams a first overall pick that looked like he was a transcendent quarterback that you just cannot take chances with.
What the Bears need to do is make a call to Detroit, get on the phone with Ben Johnson and say, how much do you want?
12 million?
Fine.
Here’s 13.
Just come, like, come fix us, come, come fix our quarterback.
We need a 4000 yard passer for the first time in our franchise history.
Ok. Like I, I just think they need a totally different direction here.
