WASHINGTON (TND) — President Joe Biden’s campaign responded to Donald Trump’s challenge on the golf course, dismissing the invite.
Trump challenged his opponent to another debate or even an 18-hole golf match or “golf off” during his campaign stop in Doral, Florida on Tuesday.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee mocked Biden’s golf swing in front of 45,000 of his supporters saying, “Joe also declared that he wanted to test his skills and stamina against mine or the golf course. Can you believe this? Did you ever see him?”
He went on to say he’d donate $1 million to any charity of the incumbent’s choice, if Biden won a televised match. He added he would give Biden a 20-stroke advantage. The invitation didn’t sit well with Biden’s campaign.
Joe Biden doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics – he’s busy leading America and defending the free world, Biden campaign spokesperson, James Singer, responded to The Hill in a statement.
Biden initially brought on the idea of a match on the green in March.
The president posted in part, “Donald, my offer to play golf still stands.”
The topic came up again during the CNN presidential debate when Trump brought up Biden’s mental state and his ability to govern for another four-year term.
“I took two tests, cognitive tests, I aced them, both of them, as you know. We made them public. He took none. I’d like see him take one, just one. I just won two club championships, not even senior, two regular club championships. To do that, you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way, and I do it, he doesn’t do it. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”
Biden responded, “I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him” as Trump smirked. Biden then told Trump, “I told you before, I’d be happy to play golf if you carry your own bag.
Biden, facing pressure from within his own party to abandon his reelection campaign, meet Wednesday with the executive council of the AFL-CIO, America’s largest federation of trade unions as he tries to make the case that his record in office matters more than his age. The 81-year-old Biden is also taking part in the NATO summit and looking to use the organization’s 75th anniversary meeting as a way to spotlight support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia and to reset his stumbling campaign.
