Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Frank Schwab reacts to the Panthers’ decision to sit their former number one overall pick just two games into his second season.
On Monday, the Carolina Panthers had some stunning news saying they would bench Bryce Young for Andy Dalton.
It’s not stunning because Bryce Young had done something to earn the starting job, but it’s really, really early to give up on a first overall pick of the draft.
We’re just two games into Bryce Young second season and already the Panthers are making the admission that they need to bench Young to give him a break because he is just not played well and neither of the Panthers, this is coming off an 84 yard game for Young.
And now you have to start wondering about the Panthers going forward.
Will Young ever really get another chance and can he do anything with it?
And if he doesn’t, does this go down as maybe the worst number one overall pick in NFL history when you consider what the Panthers gave up to get him and then passing on CJ.
Stroud to take Young when they could have had Stroud last year or Kayla Williams this year.
This is just a disastrous pick for the Panthers and Monday’s benching of Bryce Young was an admission that this Panthers team doesn’t think Bryce Young can get out of this skid.
At least not without some time off learning behind Andy Dalton.
It’s a bad, bad day for the Panthers in an already bad season.
