The Governor of the Province of Ontario in Canada, Doug Ford, renewed his request to cancel the residence permits of international students in Canada, those sitting in pro-Palestinian protest camps, and those demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Governor of Ontario added that he does not support the sit-ins and camps inside Canadian universities, which have reached their peak during the past weeks. Ford explained that he has received many letters recently from many parents due to their fears that their children will be exposed to bullying and harassment from the sit-in students.
It is worth noting that the Governor of Ontario in Canada, during yesterday’s session of the Ontario Parliament, demanded that Canadian universities expel protesting international students, and that they leave the country after canceling their residence permits.
Adding that he could not bear the bad things he heard and saw during the recent protests demanding a ceasefire from Israeli forces, and the pro-Palestinian protests.
It is also noteworthy that the University of Toronto announced last week that it would meet with the student demonstrators on campus, in a friendly manner.
The university clarified that they would not remove the student camps if their activities remained peaceful, despite setting a deadline for students to leave the campus at ten o’clock last Thursday.
It is noteworthy that the protesting students stressed the university’s demand for the need to disclose its relationship with the Israeli government, along with the need to withdraw investments from Israeli companies to force them to cease fire and stop the bombing of Palestinian civilians.
In a related context, Sandy Welsh, the university’s dean of students, explained that members of the administration met with student representatives of the camp over the weekend, and the discussions were moving in the right direction.
She added that representatives and administrators are currently working together to address health and safety concerns, in addition to reports of threats or hate language.
For his part, one of the fourth-year students in the committee and spokesman for the demonstrators, Muhammad Yassin, explained that the students condemn Governor Ford’s statements, which reinforce lies about the current protests in Canada and the real demands of the students for the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and the bombing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
