Since RCC’s Friday member bulletin alerting members that the Canada Post strike was coming to an end, the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled Sunday that work will officially resume. Operations resume today, however, the backlog is considerable. RCC expects it will take Canada Post weeks, if not months, to process the backlog, and there will be regional variances as service resumes.
After more than 4 weeks of a complete shutdown, the damage to retail supply chains, flyer marketing, and the overall holiday shopping season was considerable. Going forward, RCC will resume its call for Canada Post, and other critical transportation providers, to be deemed an essential service.
