The draw is officially set for the 2024 Canada West women’s basketball championships, which tip off Wednesday (Feb. 21) in Abbotsford.
The host University of the Fraser Valley Cascades finished the regular season with a 17-3 record and will look to use a raucous UFV Athletic Centre crowd to their advantage.
The Cascades earned a first-round bye as the No. 4 seed and open with a quarter-final contest on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s clash between Manitoba and Alberta.

The Saskatchewan Huskies enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed after a 19-1 regular-season campaign, while No. 2 UBC and No. 3 Calgary also received byes to the quarter-finals.
Semifinal action takes place Saturday, Feb. 24 with the gold- and bronze-medal games set for Sunday, Feb. 25. (There are no games on Friday.)
The top 12 teams in the regular season advanced to the championship based on the league standings using win/loss record. The teams were then reseeded based on their RPI ranking.
Meanwhile, the Canada West men’s basketball tournament is set for Feb. 21 to 25 at the University of Manitoba. The 11th-seeded UFV squad takes on the sixth-seeded Regina Cougars at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
If they win, they face the third-seeded Winnipeg Wesmen on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
Heading into the tournament, Victoria is the No. 1 seed, followed by Calgary, Winnipeg and Manitoba.
