Train on fire running through neighbourhood in Canada.
New Delhi: Dramatic visuals have surfaced online showing a train engulfed in fire in a Canadian city, running rapidly towards downtown London, Ontario, late Sunday night with flames shooting high into the night sky. The visuals were captured by witnesses who reported that the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) freight train was moving in a high speed through a residential neighbourhood in Ontario’s London with five of its cars on fire.
According to CBS News, no injuries were reported, however, the damage to the railcars was estimated at $25,000. It took fire crews around an hour and a half to douse the fire and another few hours to ensure nothing else was smouldering, London Fire platoon chief Colin Shewell was quoted as saying by the news outlet. Media reports said that the gondola cars cars were carrying used railroad ties, which were heading for disposal.
Several videos of the incident was posted by witnesses who watched it live. CBS News added that the train cars carrying dangerous goods and hazardous materials were split and moved away from the cars on fire.
In a post on X, the London Fire Department thanked “multiple 911 callers” who alerted the authorities about the train on fire. “We were ale to get on scene and contain the fire in the downtown area very quickly with limited damage and no injuries,” it further said.
The train was later moved to a rail yard where fire crew worked to douse the fire to put out the smouldering material. As of now, it is not known what caused the fire.
