Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Indian men’s cricket team for winning the T20 World Cup in the final against South Africa.
“CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC,” PM Modi said in a post on social media site X. He also released a video with a congratulatory speech praising the Men in Blue who defeated South Africa by seven runs.
In a dramatic match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, India edged out South Africa to claim their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup championship.
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also congratulated Team India on its victory. “Congratulations to Team India on a spectacular World Cup Victory and a phenomenal performance throughout the tournament! Surya, what a brilliant catch! Rohit, this win is a testament to your leadership. Rahul, I know team India will miss your guidance. The spectacular Men in Blue have made our country proud,” the Congress leader said.
Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, also congratulated Team India for their consistent performance throughout the tournament.
“Bharat is elated by the spectacular victory of the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2024. The stupendous performance by Team India throughout the tournament is a testament to their dedication and hard work. May they continue to bring glory to the nation. Heartiest congratulations!” Dhankhar said in a post on social media site X.
The President Of India, Droupadi Murmu, congratulated Rohit Sharma and co for their ‘never-say-die’ spirit.
“My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the T20 World Cup. With the never-say-die spirit, the team sailed through difficult situations and demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the tournament. It was an extraordinary victory in the final match. Well done, Team India! We are proud of you!” the President of India said in a post on social media site X.
Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the Indian team in a social media post and called the Men In Blue ‘world champions’.
“Congratulations to world champion Team India. A glorious moment for our nation. Our players put up a stellar performance throughout the T20WorldCup with unmatched team spirit and sportsmanship. The nation swells with pride at their historic achievement. Well done,” Shah said in a social media post.
Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge also congratulated Team India on the victory and specially thanked Virat Kohli, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh for their consistent performance throughout the tournament, which was held in US and the Caribbean Islands.
“In a nail-biting final, Team India won the T20 World Cup after 17 years! Many Congratulations to the Men in Blue for their impressive display of talent and dedication. Virat Kohli, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh shone through the match. Every Indian is proud of this incredible victory. Your accomplishments will always be celebrated and cherished. We look forward to continuing to support and cheer for you in future matches!” Kharge said in a social media post.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to social media to congratulate India. In a message written in Hindi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Indian men’s cricket team created history by winning the tournament.
“Hurrah! Great Team India! India has created history by winning the T-20 World Cup after 13 years. This is a moment of great joy for the entire country. Many congratulations to all the countrymen and all our players,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.
External affairs minister S Jaishankar, defence minister Rajnath Singh, roadways minister Nitin Gadkari, commerce minister Piyush Goyal, BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla and BJP MP Anurag Thakur also congratulated Team India.
“Congratulations Team India. What a match! What a catch!” Jaishankar said.
