Charleston Internation Airport gearing up for holiday travel surge
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – With Independence Day approaching, Charleston International Airport is preparing for a surge in passenger traffic.
Airport authorities are expecting a significant increase in passenger traffic from June 27 to July 7, during which time the airport will implement several initiatives to ensure smooth operations, including having additional staff on hand to assist travelers and real-time updates on social media on flight statuses, parking availability and potential delays.
“Our team is committed to ensuring safe, efficient travel experiences for all, embodying the spirit of independence in every journey,” Executive Director and CEO of Charleston International Airport Elliott Summey said.
Charleston International Airport has also provided the following airport travel tips:
- Passengers should check their flight’s status before leaving for the airport. They should also plan on arriving at least two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours before departure for international flights to account for both potential delays and increased security screening.
- Because parking spaces fill quickly during busy travel periods, passengers should allow themselves extra time for remote parking. A complimentary airport shuttle service is available to transport passengers to the terminal.
- If traveling domestically, use Charleston International Airport’s free baggage check-in service, Check N’ Go. A remote check-in station is located on the second level of the daily parking garage, along with two additional stations on the terminal front curb.’
- Follow Transportation Security Administration guidelines for liquids, gels and electronics. Travelers can also use TSA PreCheck to receive expedited security screening.
