CID nabs Thaltej man for running cricket betting racket – Times of India
Ahmedabad: CID (crime) police on Wednesday caught a 43-year-old man from Thaltej for his alleged involvement in a cricket betting racket and seized items worth Rs 1.52 crore, including a car worth Rs 1.51 crore. In his FIR with the CID (crime) unit of Ahmedabad, a constable named Dinesh Baldev stated that a police staffer received a tip-off that a man living at Somvilla Bungalows was involved in betting on a match of the Lanka Premier League between Colombo Strikers and Jafna Kings. The FIR said that when they entered the house, they found the owner, Pravin Jain, 43, who was inviting and placing bets on the Lanka Premier League match on Wednesday evening. Jain said he had got the master ID for a gambling website from a man named Bhairav BT. Jain had given provided IDs to seven others to place bets. The FIR said that Jain and his accomplices had been running the cricket betting racket for around four months. Cops seized 13 mobile phones, worth Rs 75,000, and a laptop worth Rs 20,000 from Jain. Police also found a Porsche sportscar, worth Rs 1.51 crore, parked outside Jain’s house. It was also seized for the investigation. The CID (crime) unit of Ahmedabad registered a complaint under the Prevention of Gambling Act against Jain and began an investigation.
