Cochranites were able to capture some incredible photos on Thursday evening when a storm system quickly moved into the area, bringing with it hail, lightning and heavy winds.
Natalie Hazel with Environment and Climate Change Canada said the storm really picked up at around 9 p.m.
“Golf ball sized hail for two minutes in Cochrane. Loonie sized hail in north Calgary. Ping pong ball sized hail over southeastern Calgary. It was pretty active around you and a lot of your neighbours.”
The storm also brought strong rain as well as thunder and lightning.
Hazel confirmed there were multiple lightning strikes in Cochrane and Calgary last night.
“I can tell you that there were many, many strikes in and around Calgary.”
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms today in Cochrane but no moisture in the forecast for the next several days.
