After starting the 2024-25 Premier League season with back-to-back defeats, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will hope Tuesday’s comfortable EFL Cup win over Norwich sparks the Eagles’ campaign into life.
The home side rode their luck at times against the Championship side but their quality shone through in the end, with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta playing a starring role.
Saturday’s loss to West Ham was the first time the Frenchman had failed to score in a home match under Glasner, but he made amends with a superb double against the Canaries.
His first – a spectacular overhead kick from Daichi Kamada‘s cross – gave Palace a two-goal lead, before a thumping finish from Eberechi Eze‘s low delivery put Glasner’s team out of sight.
Glasner is hoping to secure the signing of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah before the transfer window closes on Friday – but on this evidence, Palace fans can expect another fruitful campaign from the Frenchman.
