You can clearly see a difference in this Southampton team already, as they are taking far less risks than before. The passing inside their half is confident, and when there is danger the ball is cleared before it can develop.
15:12
Palace are turning up the heat now as we pass the 10-minute mark. They have had a number of promising opportunities that have turned into half-chances, and they’re closest to the opener as things stand.
15:10
CHANCE! Palace go close through Eze again. Mateta pounced on a loose ball before bearing down on goal, but he opted to pass to his attacking counterpart instead of shooting. Eze hit the shot straight away, but it was right at Ramsdale.
15:08
Sarr tried a shot from inside his own half, after seeing Ramsdale off his line. There are no prizes for guessing whether the shot went in or not, though.
15:06
Southampton have woken up now and have had a few attacks of their own. Some of the blame goes to the Palace defence as they let them through far too easily, but it’s better from the away team.
15:03
Palace have started the game as the brighter side, and they have already got the first shot of the game away. It came through Eze, but the effort was tame in the end.
15:01
KICK-OFF! Michael Salisbury blows his whistle for the first time here, and the game is underway!
14:58
The teams are out on the pitch, and we’re nearly ready for kick-off here in London!
14:53
The only change to Palace’s side that drew 0-0 with Bournemouth is in defence, with Marc Guehi suspended for accumulation of yellow cards. Richards comes into the back three to replace him, and the captain’s armband is passed to Hughes who starts in midfield. Riad returns to the squad after picking up a major injury at the start of the season. For Southampton, it’s just the one change as well with Flynn Downes out of the matchday squad. Fernandes drops back into a deeper role and allows Dibling to start in the advanced position. Bednarek captains the team.

Ivan Juric took charge of his first game as Southampton boss when his new side lost 1-0 to West Ham in the week. Despite the result, Southampton appeared to be playing better under Juric, and they have the quality in their side that is needed to stay up. Southampton are still at the bottom of the Premier League with only one win under their belts, and as the turn of the year moves ever closer, the need for three points increases. They will be in for a tough game against Palace, but this is more than a winnable game.

The last time these sides faced each other was in the Premier League, with the game ending 2-0 to Palace back in 2023! The two sides have shared many matches over the years and the head-to-head records are very split. Palace have eight wins out of the last 20 games, and Southampton have nine from the same 20. With only three draws in the head-to-head record, we are in for a decisive game here.
