Daiane Silva is finally back home.
The PFL featherweight prospect was set to make her Bellator debut this past September in London, England. Unfortunately for the undefeated up-and-comer Silva (3-0), she suffered kidney failure during her weight cut and fell into an induced coma. Her bout with Eman Almudhaf was canceled and she remained in London’s Northwick Park Hospital for more than a month after the Sept. 13 incident.
Silva’s manager Alex Davis provided an update on her status to Uncrowned’s Ariel Helwani this past weekend. Speaking on Monday’s “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Helwani revealed that Silva is now at a rehabilitation center in her native Brazil, able to walk and talk again.
Davis noted there was initially a fear Silva would have to be on dialysis for the rest of her life, but that is fortunately no longer the case. The entire situation was described by Davis as “terrifying” but also a “fairy tale” now due to Silva’s progress in her path toward recovery.
Despite the positive updates, Davis said it is still too early to know whether Silva will ever fight again.
When pressed for updates on Silva’s status immediately following the fight cancelation, PFL employees were explicitly told not to respond. PFL founder Donn Davis revealed to MMA Fighting in October that the decision to remain quiet was out of respect for Silva and her family’s privacy.
Silva’s manager Davis also highlighted the aid of PFL throughout the process.
“We are very thankful to Mike Kogan from Bellator and Eduardo Lima from the PFL, who stood by her through thick and thin,” Davis said. “I believe, and what the doctors are saying, is she’ll make a full recovery.”
Silva, 29, last fought in November 2023, defeating Mirela Vargas via a first-round TKO.
