A Saint Alphonse, N.S., man is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving causing death, after a crash that killed two people and injured two others in the Municipality of Clare.
RCMP said in a news release that Vincent Alphonse Comeau, 34, was arrested Monday in connection with the Oct. 6 crash in Mavillette, N.S.
According to police, a car veered out of its lane on Highway 1 and collided with an SUV going in the opposite direction around 6:30 p.m. local time.
A 77-year-old Saint Alphonse woman who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger in the SUV were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger later died at hospital, the release said.
A fourth person in the SUV sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The release said the driver of the car showed signs of alcohol impairment at the scene. He was taken to hospital where blood samples were taken.
RCMP said Comeau also faces charges of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
He has been released from custody on conditions and is due Feb. 18 in Yarmouth provincial court.
