Donald Trump plans to trek to Milwaukee today after surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, PA.
“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a “shooter,” or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you! DJT”
Trump’s arrival in Milwaukee is driving speculation that he will make some sort of appearance at the convention on Monday night.
He also has not yet announced his running mate, and had signaled last week that he was open to doing so during the convention, something that is rarely done in the modern political age. Before the assassination attempt, there were reports that Trump had met recently with three potential picks, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.
The rally shooting has shaken up the political race and will underscore much of the coverage of the convention this week. Nikki Haley, Trump’s main rival for the nomination, reportedly will now speak some time during the week. She was not on the list of scheduled speakers distributed by the campaign Saturday afternoon.
