Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell praised the “outstanding” performance of his side in their 2-2 draw with League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
City raced into an early 2-0 lead before they were pegged back by a side that had won their previous 11 consecutive games in all competitions.
“The goal before half-time changes the game a little bit – if we come in at 2-0, it’s probably a different game but the players were outstanding tonight,” Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.
“The way we played, the bravery we showed in possession, the effort, the energy, the desire out of possession…
“I thought it was a brilliant game of football against a team that’s won the last 11 games.
“I think it has to be put down, regardless of how the game went, as a good point.
“We have to take that performance level and that quality into the game on Saturday.”
Exeter, who are 11th in League One, travel to fifth-placed Stockport County on Saturday hoping to close the six-point gap between the sides.
Caldwell says the attacking threat his side showed – particularly in the opening quarter when they went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Millenic Alli and Jack McMillan – was particularly pleasing.
“The speed at which we attacked them, I think he caught them out,” he added.
“We were so aggressive and I keep saying this team has so much more potential, and when we see 20-30 minutes of that quality, we need to obviously see that for longer.
“When they do that against the best team in the league at the moment, the best team on form in probably all four divisions in England, they are such a threat.
“So all credit to the players, we performed really well. That’s what I wanted.”
