Lecce officially sacked coach Luca Gotti this morning and are now in intensive negotiations to bring in Marco Giampaolo as his replacement.
The Salentini pulled the plug on Gotti’s tenure following Friday’s 1-1 draw against Empoli.
The 57-year-old had only been brought in back on March 13 when Roberto D’Aversa was fired for head-butting a Verona player.
So far this season, Lecce have played three victories, three draws and eight defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
According to Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia, the hot favourite to take over at the Stadio Via del Mare is Giampaolo.
The 57-year-old has not been in football since his brief spell at Sampdoria ended in October 2022.
Before that, he had reached fame at Empoli and Sampdoria, before his ill-fated experiences at Milan and Torino.
Since leaving Samp the first time in June 2019, Giampaolo has never managed more than 25 games at a club before being dismissed.
