Canadian-focused multi-asset lithium business Green Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:GT1, OTC:GTMLF) is set to launch a 6,900-metre diamond drilling program this month at its Junior Lithium Project in Ontario.
The Junior Project, spanning 10,856 hectares, holds a conceptual exploration target of 4 to 9 million tonnes with grades ranging from 1.0% to 1.5% Li₂O.
Two-phase program
The two-phase program aims to explore the Despard target’s lithium-bearing pegmatites with the second phase contingent on successful results from the initial 3,450 metres.
“We are excited to start the maiden drilling program at the highly prospective Junior Project,” GT1 managing director Cameron Henry said.
“This drilling program has been prioritised to commence this year as it is a part of the company’s flow-through spend commitments for this calendar year.
“The Junior Project carries a rich history and field exploration success over the past two years by the GT1 exploration team has further validated its potential.”
This exploration is part of Green Technology Metals’ broader strategy to expand resources at the Eastern Hub, ensuring a long-term supply for the planned Seymour concentrator.
“The Junior Project is an important part of our Eastern Hub development strategy and advancing resource development here will be instrumental in providing long-term feed for the planned concentrator at the Seymour Project,” Henry said.
Newly discovered pegmatite zone
Recent fieldwork picked out a 750-metre mineralised strike at the Despard prospect, with rock chip assays returning grades up to 5.06% lithium oxide (Li₂O).
This includes a newly discovered LCT (lithium-cesium-tantalum) pegmatite zone, extending 200 metres southwest of the Main Zone pegmatite system.
Situated near the proposed Seymour mine and concentrator, the project could provide additional feedstock, potentially enhancing Seymour’s operational longevity.
The Despard drilling campaign will focus initially on the Main Zone, where historical 1950s drilling indicated pegmatite thicknesses exceeding 19 metres.
The recent field season has added new mapping insights, revealing high-grade lithium pegmatites across two primary zones – the Main Zone and the newly mapped West Zone.
Both zones feature rock chip assays with grades reaching up to 4.46% Li₂O, suggesting a possible stacked pegmatite system across the target area.
Green Technology Metals has expressed its commitment to fostering positive relationships with Indigenous partners, acknowledging and respecting their heritage and stewardship of the Traditional Territory.
Through collaborative efforts, the company aims to advance exploration while honouring cultural heritage and values.
