Southern Ontario woke up to a blustery start to the week, with strong winds sweeping across the region overnight. Monday morning commuters certainly felt the force of the wind, as gusts reached impressive speeds across the region.
Hamilton experienced the brunt of the wind, with gusts reaching a 76 km/h. Both Toronto and Kitchener weren’t too far behind, clocking gusts at 67 km/h.
The strongest gusts were observed over the Niagara Region and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in the pre-dawn hours.
While wind speeds have subsided somewhat, gusty conditions are expected to persist throughout the morning. Southwestern Ontario, the GTA, and the Niagara Region can expect wind gusts ranging from 50-60 km/h.
The focus of the strongest winds is now shifting eastward. Gusty winds are expected to impact parts of eastern Ontario along the Lake Ontario shoreline, including Cobourg, Prince Edward County, and Kingston. Wind gusts could reach up to 80 km/h along exposed shorelines and upwards of 70 km/h inland.
Winds are forecast to gradually ease later this evening.
