Over the course of the transfer window, there has been a significant amount of negativity towards Bayern Munich’s summer business.
It is no secret that Der Rekordmeister have struggled to get new signings through the door, with rejections coming from the likes of Xavi Simons and Désiré Doué, while those in charge in Bavaria pulled the plug on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah.
However, despite this, it appears as though the captures of João Palhinha from Fulham and Michael Olise from Crystal Palace have been overlooked.
So far in pre-season and in Der Rekordmeister’s first two competitive games of the new campaign, Palhinha and Olise have been pivotal for Vincent Kompany’s side.
Nevertheless, one player who has taken note of this is Bayern’s number nine, Harry Kane, who commented on the importance of both players to record champions:
“I think they suit our system really well. Palhinha is an animal in that defensive midfield role. I’ve had many battles against him.”
“Michael’s ability on the ball is fantastic. The way he moves, the way he goes around players—and his final product is at a high, high level. And he’s still very young, so there’s even more improvement to come.”
While Hiroki Ito is still suffering from injury, it is expected that when he returns, he too will play a key role in Kompany’s backline, making Bayern’s summer business look far more effective.
