New Delhi: A huge ruckus was seen outside the High Commission of Canada in Delhi on Sunday after scores of members of the Hindu Sikh Global Forum marched towards it protesting against the attack on a Hindu Temple in Canada.
A heavy police and security force deployment was seen outside the mission in Chanakyapuri area. They were first stopped at Teen Murti Marg by police after which they toppled barricades.
A large number of people including elderly women were seen with banners and Indian tricolour as they walked through the downed barricades amidst police presence.
The recent attack on a Hindu temple in Canada’s Brampton drew a sharp reaction from India amid ongoing diplomatic trouble between the two countries.
Canadian police recently arrested a 35-year-old Brampton resident on charges of assault with a weapon during a violent demonstration at a Hindu temple in the city, authorities said, reported PTI. Last week, a protest was held at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton and unverified videos circulated on social media appeared to show demonstrators holding banners in support of Khalistan.
People were seen engaged in fist fights and striking each other with poles. According to sources, Inderjeet Gosal was arrested by Peel Police for violence in Brampton.
He is an alleged Khalistani leader who took over Sikh for Justice referendum campaign after Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed last June, sources added. The development came after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau admitted that Khalistani terrorists are active in the country.
