Infra projects under civic watch to prevent breeding of mosquitoes – Times of India
Pune: PMC is keeping a watch on all major ongoing infra projects in the city, including Metro works, road and water supply, to ensure that they do not become mosquito-breeding sites.The administration has issued instructions to all 15 civic ward offices to visit the sites where works are on and carry out fogging, if necessary. Residents of Baner-Balewadi areas have prepared a list of over 25 locations and areas around housing societies where fogging is necessary. Locals in Katraj and Vishrantwadi want water hyacinth to be removed from rivers and lakes.PMC officials said that notices will be issued for sites with accumulated rainwater or not following measures to keep the areas clean. “We have told our teams to keep a close watch on infra sites with big pits, where chances of accumulation of water cannot be ruled out,” an official said. Metro works are underway in Shivajinagar, University Road, Baner-Balewadi and Deccan Gymkhana, while road and flyover works have been taken up in areas of Sinhagad Road, Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, Kondhwa Road.Metro officials said they are taking necessary steps to clear water from the sites where works are underway. “We have instructed the agencies involved in civil work to clear water and garbage. As of now, our teams have not come across accumulation of water at locations where Metro works are on,” an official said. Residents of various areas in the city said that PMC should keep a watch on construction sites where possibility of accumulation of water cannot be ruled out.
