Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Frank Schwab reacts to a notable decision by the Patriots head coach entering Saturday’s loss to the Chargers – which pushed New England into the first overall spot in next April’s NFL draft.
With the Patriots are just a nightmare, and I, you know, I talk, I, I say this a lot, and it is one of my things I kind of follow it that if I can’t trust you to get the little things right, how can you get the big things right?
And Jared Mayo, I, I’ve, I’ve uh kind of defended him, saying, what do you expect out of this guy?
You gave the worst roster in the NFL to, to handle, like, they’re not gonna win many games.
Why are we talking about him being one and done?
It’s something small that happened on Friday, like you could follow connect the dots here.
Friday he has a production meeting, which in a production meeting coaches are very kind of forthcoming and honest because they’re not a camera or anything to not be quoted, but they’ll tell the the announcing team certain things.
And Ross Tucker, who did a great job by the way, on NFL Network, and he explained that in that Friday meeting, Jared Mayo said, yes, we’re starting Antonio Gibson at running back because of Armando Stevenson’s fumbling issues.
Ross Tucker reported this.
It was reported elsewhere, fantasy football people got, got, oh hey, let’s get get Antonio Gibson in our lineup.
And then Ramande Stevenson starts.
And he doesn’t even, and Jared Bay was asked about it afterwards, and he’s like, coach’s decision, I’m not gonna talk about it.
And like, what?
Like, did you change your mind over these 24 hours?
Are you lying the production team to throw the chargers off that Ramonre Stevenson is starting and not Antonio Gibson?
It was just such kind of a a red flag of just a dumb mistake or dumb just situation.
Like, I, I’m gonna trust, like, I, I know I’m probably making too big of a deal about it, but again, If you’re doing wrong things with the small things, how can I trust you on the big things?
And I’m, I’m I’m turning a little bit on Jared Mayo and thinking maybe he ain’t the guy.
