Key City Theatre is hosting its third annual Indigenous art exhibit in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Works from First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists will be displayed from Sept. 16 to Oct. 25 at the theatre, with an artists reception on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit features a diverse collection of creations, ranging from beadwork and painting, to photography and video. Some of the pieces are professional and others are made by Mt. Baker Secondary School students.
The reception will give locals a chance to meet the artists, listen to their stories and learn more about their work.
Following the reception, the theatre will host a screening of musical film Les Filles Du Roi (The King’s Daughters) by Urban Ink — the same team that produced Children of God.
The film follows a young girl Kateri and her brother Jean-Baptiste whose lives are disrupted when les filles du roi arrive in New France, now Montreal, in 1665. The two strike up an unexpected friendship with young fille Marie-Jeanne Lesperance, who finds that her dream of starting over in the New World is much more complicated than she thought it would be. As the young characters bond, Mohawk, French and English forces collide, sewing the seeds for Canada we know today.
