INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever have an Olympian on their roster.
Fever guard Kristy Wallace, a native of Loganholme, Queensland, was named to the Australia women’s basketball Olympic roster on Saturday night.
She will join former WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson, who will be playing in her fifth Olympic Games at 43, as well as other current WNBA players in the Phoenix Mercury’s Bec Allen, Seattle Storm’s Sami Whitcomb and Ezi Magbegor, Washington Mystics’ Jade Melbourne, Minnesota Lynx’s Alanna Smith, and Los Angeles Sparks’ Stephanie Talbot. The team is coached by New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello.
Wallace competed extensively in the Australian professional ranks, playing for the Canberra Capitals and Southside Flyers of the Women’s National Basketball League and the Melbourne Tigers in the Melbourne Basketball Association from 2018-22. She also has experience on the Australian national team, playing in the 2022 FIBA World Cup.
The Atlanta Dream picked Wallace in the 2018 WNBA Draft after she played four years at Baylor, but she opted to return to her home country after an ACL tear in February 2018 ended her collegiate career prematurely. Wallace then tore her ACL again in December 2018 in just her second game with the Canberra Capitals, forcing her to go through another extensive rehab process.
Wallace returned to the WNBA in 2022, playing one season with the Atlanta Dream before she was traded to the Fever. She has started 15 games for the Fever this season, averaging 5.2 points per game.
