While most of their peers were playing UEFA Champions League football on Tuesday evening, Manchester United were rather disappointingly competing in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Barnsley.
Any disappointment at said situation was quickly put to bed though, as the Red Devils put on a show for their fans at Old Trafford.
Man Utd fired seven unanswered goals in the game, with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Christian Eriksen all finding the back of the net.
Here were United’s best-performing players in the win, courtesy of 90min’s full player ratings.
Alejandro Garnacho: 10/10
Look, it wasn’t against the greatest opposition (no offence, Barnsley fans) but Garnacho was absolutely exceptional on Tuesday evening.
The Argentine was at the heart of basically every Man Utd attack, showing off both his creative flair and also his clinical nature in front of goal. Those attributes led to Garnacho scoring two goals either side of half-time and setting up two more for his teammates.
A top performance from a youngster who seems destined to *Harry Rednkapp voice* go right to the very top.
Marcus Rashford: 10/10
Only an honourable mention for a 10/10 performance?
Yep, bit harsh, but having bagged one more goal contribution, we had to give the ‘best player’ award to Garnacho.
That takes nothing away from how good Rashford was on Tuesday though. The wide forward looked back to his best, proving two goals and an assist in the 7-0 victory.
His first goal of the game was particularly eye-catching, as he showed off trickery, pace and clinical finishing we hadn’t seen from him in quite a while.
Christian Eriksen: 9/10
Another Man Utd player with three goal contributions to his name in the win, like Rashford, Eriksen scored two and set up another.
The veteran midfielder was simply on another level technically to the Barnsley midfielders, misplacing only two passes throughout the game and regularly finding time on the ball with consummate ease.
A classy outing.
