Mindy Kaling was nothing but excited when her friend Meghan Markle asked her to appear on her upcoming Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.
During an appearance on E!’s Live from the Red Carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes, Kaling, 45, dished on joining Meghan, 43, on the lifestyle show, which premieres Jan. 15.
“I had had my baby and I think I was like, two months postpartum and she texted me and was like, ‘Do you want to be on my show?’” said Kaling, who welcomed her third child in 2024. “And when you hang out with Meghan, you know the food is going to be good. And so it’s just nice to have someone else cooking for me.”
She continued: “And I was like, ‘I’ll come to Montecito and have you cook for me and go to your garden.’ And that’s what we did.”

During her red carpet interview, Kaling also revealed why she selected her strapless sparkling gown for the awards ceremony, saying, “I love yellow gold. I’m Indian. It’s just our color.”
The Office alum’s appearance on With Love, Meghan was first revealed when the trailer for the show dropped on Jan. 2.
“This is probably one of the most glamorous moments of my life,” Kaling said in a clip from the show.
Prior to the release of the trailer, Kaling posted a video of herself cooking soup on Instagram in October, saying, “So this is exciting,” before joking, “I’m freaking Meghan Markle over here.”

Kaling also appeared on Meghan’s Spotify podcast Archetypes in 2022. The pair discussed being “latchkey kids” and found common ground over not always feeling beautiful, with Meghan describing herself as an “ugly duckling” in high school.
“Look, maybe not conventional beauty as it … now, maybe that would be seen as beautiful, but massive frizzy curly hair and a huge gap in my teeth,” she said on the show. “I was the smart one. Forever and ever and ever and ever. And, and then, [I] just sort of grew up.”
The Duchess of Sussex later drove the point home, saying, “I was the smart one, not the pretty one.”
For her part, Kaling shared that she never thought of herself as attractive while growing up as a “dark-skinned Indian girl, overweight, glasses, in lily-white suburbs of Boston.”
“So I went through high school. No boyfriends. Heard about my friends kissing, falling in love, losing their virginity. College. Same. Nothing. Always a spectator. Watching things,” she explained. “By the way, I learned a lot from that. I learned how to, you know, so many of my shows right now are about young women and longing and feeling horny and feeling rejected. And I’ve learned a lot from that.”
