Mississippi State head coach Matt Roberts has finalized his staff for the upcoming season, hiring Trevor Gotkowski as an assistant after promoting Jake Jacoby to associate head coach.
Gotkowski was most recently the associate head coach at The Citadel, where he spent two years.
“We’re thrilled to add Trevor to our staff,” Roberts said in a news release. “When we had the opportunity to add a third coach, we chose to take our time and find the right candidate and Trevor checked all the boxes we had. He brings a ton of energy and expertise. We look forward to him working with our guys when they get back in the fall and continuing to build our program for the future.”
Before his college coaching days, Gotkowski was a tennis professional and golf shop manager at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. He spent two years as the head tennis professional at Florence Country Club and is a member of the Third Serve Foundation, which helps introduce tennis to underprivileged children around Charleston, South Carolina.
Gotkowski grew up in Cartersville, Georgia, and played tennis at Wofford College from 2013-17, earning 45 career victories and receiving a degree in economics with a minor in business.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive 19-8 season in which they went 9-3 in Southeastern Conference play, earned the No. 16 national seed in the NCAA Tournament and defeated Alabama State and Middle Tennessee in the first two rounds before falling to No. 1 seed Ohio State.
“To be able to work with and learn from easily two of the best coaches in college tennis, Matt and Jake, is something I will not take for granted,” Gotkowski said. “I hope to be able to help push Mississippi State tennis to the next level and continue to compete and excel at the highest national level.”
